The Hyperloop is nothing. Elon Musk, the man behind the high-speed train experiment, now conceives of an interplanetary Internet, according to a new report.
Musk is expected to talk tonight about new plans to deploy satellites that could connect lots and lots of people with a low-cost Internet, Bloomberg Businessweek report today.
Meanwhile, Google and Facebook last year both came forward with their own plans to connect more people around Earth.
But Musk, who is clearly unafraid of space travel — he is, after all, chief executive of commercial rocket company SpaceX — might well be thinking bigger.
The project could take several years and $ 10 billion or more, but it’d be able to take advantage of the speed of light and deliver content faster than existing systems, Musk told Bloomberg Businessweek. What’s more, it could provide an Internet connection to people on Mars, according to the report.
